In the middle of Carlton there is a little garden called Murchison Square. This is where the footpath creates a cross, as featured on the painting. With Murchison Street to the north of the square which leads to Nicholson Street.

Carlton is a suburbs of significant historical importance and the architecture, although mixed has many houses with period features. One of the features that attracted my attention was the patten on the concrete walls, particularly at the top of arches.

The colours used are representative of those I noticed within the area.

The map is oriented to North and approximately to scale.

The painting is continued around the sides of the canvas.

Signed on the front.
