From the 2022 Top Views exhibition.

The Barak building is in honour of William Barak, the last traditional Elder of the Wurundjeri-Willam clan. His portrait can be seen overlooking Melbourne, down Swanston Street.

Barak was an artist and an advocate for Aboriginal social justice.

It is a 32-storey building with Barak’s face on two sides while the Northern and Western facades have what looks like a heat map or topographic map featuring eight colours.

One interesting feature, below the face, is discs that spell “Wurundjeri I am who I am” in braille.

The map is oriented to the North.

The painting is continued around the sides of the canvas.

Signed on the front and authenticated on the back.
