In the heart of Kew Junction, the 48 and 109 tram lines intersect in front of a war memorial, iconic to the area, adjacent to the former post office—now a place to dine. This location is shaped by movement, memory, and history.
Yet, I can't picture what it looks like.
With aphantasia, even the most familiar places leave no visual memory. I recall facts and can take photographs to evoke the feeling of being there, but the experience is unable to be relived.
This work emerges from that tension, highlighting the contrast between places built for the purpose of memory and my inability to retain their image.
The painting is continued around the sides of the canvas.
